Recently, it has become quite common for parents to let their children under the strict supervision of their electronic nannies (yes, we are talking about gadgets), while they mend their own important grown-up business. However, parents should not forget that regular physical activity helps children develop strong muscles, prevent obesity and develop faster cerebral connexions. These are all in such a strong relationship with physical activity, that even if children are those who are reluctant to playing outside, they should be forced to do so. However, playground grants in Ohio are available, and now small communities lacking such means can apply for one. But let’s analyse how this kind of physical activity can impact child development.

Improved motor skills

Small children might seem clumsy, but they, in fact, only have poor developed motor skills. Playground activity helps them enhance those skills, because they interact more with different equipment and other children, with age-appropriate toys, all in a spontaneous, not pre-established manner. Spontaneity is a factor children are not able to find in indoor activities, and only by offering the opportunity to increase their motor skills in a sustainable manner they will manage to do so.

Improved balance

Swinging is a predominant activity on playgrounds. It has the capacity of enhancing children development in many areas, starting with improved balance skills. In order to put a swing into motion, your child will need to develop a series of skills. The most appropriate activity children can do on a playground in order to increase their body awareness levels is climbing. Free play improves their social skills

Of course, the level in which parents allow children to get involved in playground activities influences the level in which they start to develop social capabilities. Organised activities or running increase cohesion between children and help them become more aware about how interaction influences them. Also, they start to learn at a young age what type of behaviour is acceptable in public and what is not, and other common sense aspects.

Both physicians and psychologists advise parents to let their children become more and more involved in playground activities, as they affect immensely how they develop as human beings, and grow into functional adults. Make sure you don’t replace the well-deserved playtime with electronic nannies and take your children to the closest playground on a daily basis.
